About Amerex
Amerex Corporation® is a leading American manufacturer of fire suppression products, headquartered in Trussville, Alabama. The company specializes in hand-portable and wheeled fire extinguishers for commercial and industrial environments, as well as fire and explosion suppression systems for military and defense vehicles.
Amerex’s commitment to innovation has resulted in the development of advanced fire safety technologies, including automatic restaurant systems, vehicle fire suppression systems, gas detection, industrial suppression systems, and fire detection devices. In 1999, Amerex was acquired by McWane, Inc.
The company was founded in 1971 by Ned Paine and George Baureis. Paine remained with Amerex until his retirement in September 1999. In 2010, Amerex became a key subcontractor for the U.S. military by developing vehicle-based fire suppression systems. These systems are still actively deployed on military vehicles operating in conflict zones where protection from mines and improvised explosive devices is critical.
Amerex works in partnership with the Oshkosh Corporation, a major manufacturer of military vehicles, integrating suppression systems that use optical sensors to instantly detect fires and explosions. These sensors activate jets and hoses that deploy a concealed extinguishing agent to suppress threats quickly and effectively.
In 2011, Amerex acquired The Solberg Company, a firefighting equipment manufacturer based in Bergen, Norway. According to Amerex President Bill Beyer, fire extinguisher demand tends to follow economic growth and new construction trends. Today, Amerex produces approximately 2.5 million commercial and industrial fire extinguishers annually.
