About Amerex

Amerex Corporation® is a leading U.S. manufacturer of firefighting products, headquartered in Trussville, Alabama. The company produces a wide range of hand portable and wheeled fire extinguishers for commercial and industrial applications, as well as fire and explosion suppression systems for military vehicles. Amerex’s advanced technologies have also contributed to the development of automatic restaurant fire suppression systems, vehicle fire suppression systems, gas detection equipment, industrial suppression systems, and fire detection devices. In 1999, Amerex was acquired by McWane, Inc.

Founded in 1971 by Ned Paine and George Baureis, Amerex quickly became a prominent name in the fire protection industry. Ned Paine remained involved with the company until his retirement in September 1999, at which time he sold Amerex to McWane. Beginning in 2010, Amerex expanded its reach into the defense sector, emerging as a significant subcontractor for the U.S. military. The company developed and continues to supply vehicle fire suppression systems designed to protect military vehicles—particularly those vulnerable to mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in conflict zones. Amerex serves as a subcontractor for the Oshkosh Corporation, a major manufacturer of military vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with advanced fire suppression technology, including optical sensors that detect fires and explosions instantly, triggering jets and hoses to discharge fire-extinguishing agents rapidly and effectively.

In 2011, Amerex expanded internationally with the acquisition of The Solberg Company, a firefighting equipment manufacturer based in Bergen, Norway. According to Amerex President Bill Beyer, sales of fire extinguishers often align with broader economic trends and new construction growth. Today, Amerex manufactures approximately 2.5 million commercial and industrial fire extinguishers annually.
